Environmental assessment

Our team undertakes environmental impact assessment and baseline studies, as well as the design and implementation of mitigation measures. Our members have long term experience in decoding legislation and in licensing of public and private sector projects and activities (port projects, infrastructure, tourism facilities, urban development projects, industrial facilities, renewable energy installations, etc.).

Our services include:

  • Coordination and undertaking of Environmental Impact Assessment studies (in whole or in part).
  • Consulting for monitoring and mitigation of environmental impacts
  • Consulting and assistance in marine research and sampling.
  • Baseline studies and field sampling of benthic organisms, zooplankton, oceanographic parameters and marine mammals for a variety of offshore and coastal activities (port construction, renewable energy installation, cable laying, hydrocarbon industry related projects).
  • Assessment of ecological status using ecological indicators (BENTIX, etc.)
  • Baseline studies of terrestrial activities and sampling of vegetation and fauna.

Education

The aim of our programs is to raise public awareness for the protection and management of the marine environment. Working with students, and people of all ages, we seek to bring them in contact with environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, resource depletion and habitat destruction. By promoting an understanding of ecological concepts, the importance of protecting biodiversity and the impact of human activities on the planet, we equip the general public with necessary knowledge and tools to facilitate informed decision-making regarding marine ecosystems.

Our programs include

  • Integrating environmental education into school curricula at all levels
  • Organizing community projects, and workshops
  • Clean-up campaigns and local conservation projects
  • Experiential learning through field trips to natural areas, reserves and parks

Research

Ecowave has a dynamic team with expertise in marine biology and oceanography. We have a particular focus on studies of marine mammals, marine bioacoustics and benthic ecosystems, and our expertise also covers the challenges associated with the conservation and sustainability of sensitive marine habitats.

Our members have extensive experience in research projects covering a wide range of ecological topics, including:

  • Marine mammal distribution
  • Bioacoustics and underwater noise studies
  • Ecological studies of vegetation in terrestrial environments
  • Mapping and remote sensing
  • Assessment of plastic distribution in marine ecosystems
  • Habitat assessment and development of ecological models
  • Scientific diving, including sample and data collection, as well as organizing training programs
